Canons Park Estate

An oasis of calm and beauty within suburbia

Membership

The members of the CPEL Board and committee work on a purely voluntary basis for everyone's benefit. Over the past few years the Company's activities have included the following:

  • Oversee and maintain the Seven Acre Lake, The Basin Lake (duck pond), the grass verges and Wellingtonia trees along Canons Drive and various other surplus lands with which it was endowed when the estate was built in the 1920s and 1930s;
  • Engaging contract gardeners to carry out works at the Basin and Seven Acre Lakes, and various other small pieces of garden land on the Estate;
  • Engaging a contractor to keep litter on the Estate under control - especially that left by visitors to the Basin;
  • Engaging water bailiffs who look after the Seven Acre Lake, keep the pathways around it clear and tidy, and ensure that the fencing is secure and adequate to protect against trespassers;
  • Engaging an engineer to advise on the Company's responsibilities to the Environment Agency for maintaining the watercourses of the Seven Acre Lake;
  • Pressurising the council into installing additional litter bins at the entrance to the Estate and at Rye Way, which has also helped to reduce the litter problem;
  • Installing (at our own expense) an additional litter/dog waste bin at the Basin and paying for the dog waste to be regularly collected;
  • Arranging for professional tree work on the Company's trees along Canons Drive and around the Basin and Seven Acre Lake;
  • Arranging for insurance to cover the risk of accidental injury to visitors or workers at both the Basin and the Seven Acre Lake.

The Association also publishes its own newsletter, about three to four times a year, which is distributed to all households and carries advertising opportunities for local businesses and services.

Have you paid your CPEL membership for this year?

Membership fees are payable annually, with the fees agreed at the 2014 AGM set at £125 for 2015 rising to £150 in 2016. Most Members pay via Direct Debit and this can be easily arranged via the Treasurer.

If you have not yet paid please do so, as maintenance of the Estate is a costly business and EVERYONE benefits from the work of the Association and safeguarding our beautiful trees and lakes and helping to sustain the higher-than-average value of all our homes.

If you are not currently a member of the CPEL please contact me for a membership and standing order application form. If you are new to the Estate then I will also include a copy of the Rules, plus our most recent newsletter.

Have you contributed to the security initiative?
The Committee organises dog patrols by a trained security officer on a Friday and Saturday evening from 7.00pm until 3.00am. The patrols are operated by Crown Protection Services who are SIA registered. The aim of the patrols is to keep anti-social behaviour by late night visitors to the Estate to a minimum and to also hopefully act as a deterrent against opportunistic crime.

The cost of contributions is £150 per year. If we are able to attract more contributions we will be able to improve the frequency, and therefore also the effectiveness, of the patrols.

Please contact me for an application form if you are interested in supporting this initiative.
